DEVO had some strange instruments over the years like the La Baye 2×4 we brought back to life last year. To carry the tradition further, were are adding and Jerry Casale’s “Be Stiff” Bass.
These Eastwood guitars are modelled after originals that were customized by Bob1 & Jerry themselves during the time DEVO was working on their “Freedom Of Choice” album in 1979/1980. Neither Bob nor Jerry were professionals at customization and it is interesting to note that these were ‘Frankensteined’ by guys who were – like their music – just inspired to do something different than the norm.
Bob1’s “Whip It” guitar was basically a Les Paul with the lower horn cut off and flipped over. It is a 24 3/4″ scale guitar, mahogany body with maple top, set maple neck, dual humbuckers, dual volume and tone controls with a stop tail and a dark cherry finish.
Jerry’s Bass will feature a 30 1/2″ scale bass with two pickups, 3 way switching and single volume and tone controls. The mahogany body with bolt-on maple neck, body color is orange, with black headstock and neck back.
For both models we have re-designed the headstock to take on the shape of the famous DEVO Energy Dome, with a black headstock face and topped it off with a DEVO logo!
